Sip & Savor Opener: Ten22

Named Sacramento’s Best New Restaurant (2010), Ten22 may be one of many restaurants in Sacramento, but they offer several things other restaurants don’t: a farm-to-table experience and, as their slogan says, the chance to “eat differently.”Established in 2009 and the sister restaurant to The Firehouse Restaurant, Ten22 offers something else no other restaurant in Sacramento can: the largest selection of beers on tap.

There’s also an extensive wine list which you will certainly need to take your time looking over, as there is everything from merlot, pinot noir, and sparkling, to chardonnay, white, and red. With a menu designed by French chef Jay Veregge (who received classical French training from the French Academy of Culinary Arts) using both sophisticated and comfort foods, Ten22 has something to suit all tastes. It’s French technique with local American product, and a simple cooking theory: Chef Veregge puts dishes together using flavors that simply work well together.

Whether it’s the butternut squash ravioli with roasted walnuts and cranberry-sage brown butter sauce, the figs and cambozola flatbread with caramelized onions, or the lamb osso buco with spanish chorizo, medjool dates, natural pan jus, and couscous, your taste buds won’t be disappointed. However, Chef Veregge recommends the steak (flatiron fingerlings and bacon-braised greens) and says it is by far their most popular entree.

“I love the double R ranch beef because it’s produced locally with high ethical standards and the very best flavor profile.”

He also recommends the turnips, potatoes, and squash, and says “people who hate vegetables order this dish frequently.”Indulge in dessert with the berrymisu, banana pie, or their daily sorbet. Enjoy your glass of wine and dinner indoors or outdoors on their beautiful outdoor patio or boardwalk.

The patio is also a great space to host events or parties with large groups. For those guests who would like the ultimate dining experience, Chef Veregge will create a one-of-a-kind meal using daily-changing, seasonal and spontaneous ingredients that have been known to include fresh lobster, sweetbreads, truffles and salmon roe.

“We promise it’ll be a unique culinary experience you won’t easily forget,” owner Terry Harvego said.

You can even collaborate with Chef Jay directly to ensure your meal is exactly to your tastes. It’s family-friendly and casual-chic so feel free to come in jeans with the kids or bring your dinner date. Happy Hour is Monday-Friday from 3-6 p.m. It’s the perfect time to come to order multiple small dishes and cocktails, sampling the best of everything at one time.
