Charity Charity Spotlight: Reason To Party

Reason to PartyAs if people need a reason to party, charity is always a good excuse.

As a way to make philanthropy fun, Reason To Party, an all-volunteer, non-profit organization hosts parties and events to raise money for a variety of local causes and charities. No expensive dinners, no speeches, just great people, swanky parties and a purpose. To date, they have raised over $500,000 for local charities.

The organization began in San Francisco shortly after 2008 when some friends noticed that local causes were suffering and the “old” model of charities relying on annual galas where auctions failed because no one would bid on lavish items at that time. Instead, Reason To Party came up with the idea to attract several people to chip in a little, and the best way to do that, was to throw a fun event.

Reason to PartyExpansion of Reason To Party to Sacramento came organically through key committee members in the San Francisco team that were from Sacramento and wanted to bring the model to their home city.
One Sacramento native, Ryan Brough, joined the organization when he helped procure an event space for a party benefiting Sacramento Splash.

“After our event at the Old Sugar Mill and the positive feedback from our patrons, I knew this was an organization that would be perfect for me to invest more time into,” he said. “In that same year, I joined the Board of Directors and have not looked back.”

Reason To Party recently made it on the national stage when they hosted the Reason to Party: Never Too Young event in support of the colon cancer community’s Never Too Young initiative at Times Square in New York City on March 3. Fresh off Lincoln Center Fashion Week, fashion designer Marc Valvo co-hosted the event, which took place on the Nasdaq floor.

Reason to Party“We are very excited to see how our East Coast presence will grow and were humbled by the support in New York City,” said Brough.

An upcoming and much anticipated Reason To Party event will be Bright Underbelly, where the largest mural in the region (70,000 square feet) will unfold under the W/X freeway. The festivities will include farmers market stands, samples from Broadway’s diverse restaurant row, and live music. Residents and natives can also become part of the mural by having their name inscribed in the community pillar for an additional donation. The one night event will highlight the rich past, present, and bright future for the Southside community and Sacramento.

“We pride ourselves in bringing people together to make communities better, and Bright Underbelly will do this,” said Brough. “The event will be a celebration of art in Sacramento and the community.”
